The inspiration for this design comes from summertime in Perth. Flies buzzing about the place, somewhat inescapable. Here they are transformed from tiny little creatures into larger than life-sized insects. As opposed to the irritating flies you cannot escape this installation is very quiet, clear perspex has been used as the core material with the designs etched into it. Depending on where you stand the space may seem very full or almost empty. The way the light catches on the perspex brings out the detail in the flies. My aim was to take this 'common pest' and transform it into something beautiful. 99 flies have been created for this piece, portraits will be taken at the opening where the viewers can interact with the installation posing with themselves, their friends or perhaps some mortein.
